I am an educator. During my teaching career, I taught first grade, second grade, and third grade. My students were introduced to cursive writing in grade 3. If I recall correctly, the curriculum specified 15 min. sessions for handwriting lessons, and up to three days per week. After resigning due to suffering from a chronically painful and debilitating neurological syndrome, RSD, it has come to my attention that, at least some of the schools in the School District where taught, no longer includes cursive writing as a subject in the curriculum! Yes, it has been totally eliminated in some schools! This came to light when my nephew entered fourth grade, and was unable to write or read cursive writing. I was truly surprised. Cursive writing was a foreign language to him! I find this new practice totally unacceptable! When completing a transaction at a bank and a signature is required, what is a child who has not been taught cursive writing to do? Also, as you stated, all job applications are not computerized. The nephew I spoke of is now in eighth-grade, and he continues to struggle with writing and reading cursive writing! He struggled to produce a legible signature when I asked him to, before completing this comment. He said, "No one writes in cursive anymore." Paulette I emphatically agree! I am an educator. I guess I am a little old-school when it comes to backing up websites. I prefer to actually go in and get my files myself.
